Double Wick Scented Jar Candles

Jar Candles

One of the first candles originated in Ancient Egypt. Egyptians created a light source which we now would refer to as a torch — they would dip bunches of gathered reeds into extremely hot tallow (beef fat), and then dip them into fire. Romans eventually expanded on this idea and produced a wick candle which we are more familiar with today. Paraffin wax was developed in 1850 from oil and coal shells. Later, the combination of paraffin and stearic acid became the base for most potted candles throughout the end of the 19th century into the early 20th century.

During the 19th century, many individuals experimented with the production of candles. It was discovered that sperm whale oil could be crystallized into a wax and was available in large quantities. Whale fat was also found to be used even earlier in China circa 221-206 BC. Pillars or tapers need a strong wick in order to burn properly. Wicks are a string or cord that when lit, force the "fuel" up towards the flame, and then hold the flame in place through a process called capillary action. Mini Taper Ivory Candles are perfectly sized to burn for one evening and set a romantic mood.

Pine Scented Camping Mug Candle Soy Candles

A more recent trend in the candle world features soy. Soy candles are made from soy wax, which is hydrogenated from soy bean oil. One benefit of this type of candle is that it offers "clean burning," not producing the black soot that paraffin wax often does. They are also indirectly supporting American farmers, as soy beans are grown in many of our fields and are biodegradable. The Scented Camping Mug Candle provides you with light on a camping trip and once it's finished burning, you are left with a usable mug! The mug candle is available in four different scents to make your outdoor adventure a little more homey.

Now that you have your candles, you most likely will need a way to display them and take care of them. our Blacksmith Candle Snuffer will safely extinguish your burning candles, prevent smoke from overpowering the scent of the candle and will preserve the life of the wick. Consider going the extra mile to preserve your candles by using a Wick Trimmer. Your candles will burn longer and will keep the wick at a safe lenghth. For your pillar, taper or votive candles on a dining room table or an end table, use tealight holders, small wreaths or glass jars to create a seasonal or more decorated display.
