Using the same construction the Shakers did in the 1700s, wood worker Keith Griffith takes pride in creating these works of art. Our Cherry Shaker Tote is made with wood from environmentally friendly mills. The wood is cut into thin bands, drilled and hand carved to tapered swallowtail joints. After finely sanding, each piece is soaked in boiling water. The bands are bent to shape and fastened with copper tacks. The bottom is attached with hard wood pegs. The tote is sanded again then painted in a deep country red and rubbed to let the beauty of the cherry wood show through. Layers of seal coat, urethane oil and paste wax give the tote a beautiful and durable finish. USA. 12 3/4"L x 9"W x 2 1/2"D; Handle is 4 3/4"H
