A Look At Teak

Take A Look At Teak

In the damp soils of the deep hardwood forests of Indonesia, China and Myanmar, tall rod-like trees peek their rounded leaves above the canopy. The trunks look bundled as if they are working together, and seemingling bind themselves in order to reach the nutrient-rich sunlight.

These great stalks of the forest are called teak. The bundled appearance is simply how they grow, and do they ever grow!

Teak is a hardwood unlike others. With the silica it contains, the wood can dull most sharp ends. Luckily, it isn't so dense as to make it impossible to work with when shaping into furniture.

What makes teak home furnishings stand out are the wood oils that allow the furniture to be exposed to natural elements, with little to no help from staining or coats of varnish. These oils also make the wood pest and termite resistant. It's an amazing hard and nature-resistant wood, making it an ideal material for outdoor furniture.

Teak For Life

We at Sturbridge Yankee Workshop know you don't want to have to buy new patio furniture year after year. You want to buy great quality furniture and not have to worry about it getting worn. Do not spend the first nice days of warm weather shellacking your patio furniture - recline back and enjoy the season with a Teak Steamer Chair instead.

It should be noted that there is an almost gray patina that comes over the teak when left untreated. This does not change the durability or strength of the furniture, only the color. If you wish to keep the honey golden color of the wood, teak oil should be applied every 6-12 months.

Crafted With Care

This teak is derived from sustainable plantations and is Grade A wood, so you can rock in peace in the Teak Double Rocking Chair knowing that it is going to last. Speaking of long-lasting, this teak furniture is not only made with great hardwood, but is made with great care and craftsmanship. It is dry kilned and the joints are strong bonds created by mortise and tenon joints: a peg tightly fitted into a corresponding slot. With teak furniture, you know you are buying a quality product that will last a lifetime. Now get outside and get comfortable in your teak furniture!
