FOLK ART
Folk art is an American tradition, evolved from our earliest craftsmen and women of colonial times. In the most basic sense, Folk Art reflects the conventional values of a society; thus why we see a change in subject matter or style over time. The art form encompasses a variety of techniques; such as: watercolor, oil or acrylic paintings, wool hooked rugs, painted or carved furniture and whimsical sculptures. All of these and more have become part of the American rustic style of design known as folk art.
Here at Sturbridge Yankee Workshop, we celebrate and honor the incredible talent of folk artists. Their beautiful renditions of American landscapes, historical figures and landmarks, whimsical portraits and familiar animals are very appealing and perfectly suited for your country home. To give you a sample of the range of folk art we carry, take a look at some of our wall art below!

AMERICANA
A favored theme among many of our folk artists is Americana. A majority of Sturbridge prints feature the American flag at its finest, such as our Chair with Jug Print, seen here to the left. Originally painted by artist Cecile Baird, we see an antique ladderback chair with an old whiskey jug, an American flag, and a berry wreath. For more Americana inspired prints, click below and feel proud of the U.S.A. with artwork by Billy Jacobs and Phillip Philbeck.

HISTORICAL
Historical prints with a twist, is what you'll find in our collection of historical figures and landmarks at Sturbridge. The whimsical characters and landscapes are created by none other than folk artist, Tim Campbell. His approach to George Washington allows us to see another side to our first president. The other historical figures, such as his wife Martha and Abe Lincoln, offer unexpected facial expressions. Find many more just like the ones listed below, while browsing more of Tim Campbell's work on our website today.

It's important to surround ourselves with things that inspire our hopes and our dreams. Our collection of inspirational themed folk art is something we're proud of. Our Living Life Print, seen here to the left, is delightfully created by artist Bonnie Mohr. Featuring lessons to live by such as, "Life is not a race - but indeed a journey. Be Honest. Work Hard. Be Choosy. Say "thank you", and "great job" to someone each day." The others listed below also display messages of positive thoughts and sayings.
